Dot writes: it’s ages since I’d had Prawn weighed, but today he had a developmental assessment and weighing was part of it. I can therefore proudly report he has broken through the 10kg barrier and is now 10.12 kg or 22lb 5oz (including nappy and short-legged romper suit with nifty anchor design). He can also [...]

Green with envy
Dot writes: one of our trips while in Wales was to the Centre for Alternative Technologies just north of Machynlleth. Before we went I had this vague idea it would be all wacky inventions – hovering shopping trolleys and clockwork pet-feeding systems and whatnot. Actually it is a centre for experimentation in sustainable living. There [...]

Photos from Wales trip
Ken writes: Here are a few of the photos I took on our recent trip to Wales. I hope to be emailed some others in due course, and may post the better ones on here too. Click on the photos for a larger image.

Things we learned in Wales
Dot writes: the Welsh for ‘microwave’ is ‘popty ping’. Isn’t that marvellous? ‘Popty’ seems to mean ‘bakery’; maybe ‘ping’ is onomatopoeia. Anyway, I shall call it a popty ping from now on.
We’re just back from a few days camping with my mother, my sister and her fiance (Almost Uncle Ben), which explains the further little [...]

Dot writes: today Hugh is with the childminder and I have no meetings at work, so we need to take this opportunity to: put the curtains back up in the old flat, check we haven’t left anything, try to reduce the new flat to some vague semblance of order, arrange for our post to be [...]

Pause
Dot writes hurriedly from work:
We’ve just moved (from a small flat at one end of the complex to a bigger flat at the other end) and currently have no internet access at home. Apologies for the break in blogging. We’ll start posting again when we can, probably starting with a shot of Hugh playing for [...]

Hugh is back home
Dot wrote: our brief stay in the National Children’s Hospital at Tallaght can best be regarded as a short, well-appointed prison sentence for incompetence. The initial observations by the triage nurse were reassuring – blood pressure, pulse, pupils, and attempts to bite the interesting medical instruments were all normal – but, as Ken mentioned, it’s [...]

Hugh’s in hospital
Ken writes:
Today, just as we were packing our bags for our trip to Galway, Hugh pitched off the side of the bed straight on to his darling little head. To my eye, and I watched the whole thing in slow-motion, he seemed to hit the ground full on the top of his head. There was [...]

Midwives and the internet
Dot writes: this is a post that may just be perpetuating an uncomfortable incident those involved would like to put behind them, but it has been making me uneasy and I feel the need to say my piece. Recently Sarah Stewart commented on a post by “Dr Crippen”. The post was about an incident in [...]

Dot writes: when you go to the cinema (I won’t say ‘when we go to the cinema’, because Hugh and cinemas don’t mix), you can tell what sort of film you’re going to see, or at least who the target audience are, by the adverts they show beforehand. The films we like are usually coupled [...]
