Dot writes: Frank has said his first word, and it is NO. As the sole member of a vocabulary of one, it is somewhere between a word and a noise: sometimes he uses it in a contextually appropriate way (“Are you coming inside with Mummy?” “No” – with a mulish shake of the head as he stubbornly stays on the path), but sometimes he just likes to sit and say no, one, two, three, four or more times in a row. I wouldn’t call him a negative child. But he does like to dig his little toes in.

  1. Now if he can just master ‘neither’, he’ll have the full range of propositional truth functions within reach. Well done, Frank. (And happy birthday, Hugh).
